Reno-Sparks Housing Interior Design: Reno Workforce Housing, Apartments and Homes

Reno workforce housing means the furnished apartments, extended-stay rooms and workforce-priced rentals that shelter the crews and technicians behind the Storey County data center buildout and the manufacturing hiring in Reno and Sparks. Behind those residents come apartments, build-to-rent neighborhoods and new-home communities for the households that decide to stay.

Level Up Interiors is a commercial interior design firm based in Irvine, California, with its own Southern California receiving warehouse and installation partners across the country. Nevada is not yet a state where we have completed a project, and crew units and rentals along the Storey County corridor are work we are ready to take on.

Storey County data centers and the Reno-Sparks hiring curve

The largest signals come from Storey County, home of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.

Fleet and Tract broke ground there in May 2026 on a $4.6 billion, 2 million square foot data center project, with about 1,500 construction jobs at peak and roughly 100 long-term tech staff on site. In July 2025, Novva Data Centers announced a 300,000 square foot data center, Novva Tahoe Reno, in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center. The same month, Vantage Data Centers announced a 224MW campus in the county with nearly $3 billion to be invested and its first building scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2026.

Those figures show the shape of housing demand. A large construction workforce arrives, works through the peak and moves on, while a far smaller permanent staff stays for the life of the building. Layer on the advanced manufacturing hiring in Reno and Sparks, and the metro needs short-term furnished housing and long-term rentals at the same time.

Crews on rotation lean on extended-stay hotels and furnished units, and they live by the shift schedule. A room has to let them sleep in daylight, eat well, clean up after a dusty day and get back to the site rested.

The trade-off is timing. Furnishing every unit for the construction peak can leave an owner with a building full of crew-style rooms once the peak passes. We would plan finishes and furniture so a unit can step down from fully furnished rotation housing to a conventional lease for a technician or plant hire, with pieces reassigned rather than thrown away.

Inside the unit, we would plan for the following.

  • Room-darkening shades and a sleeping area buffered from the corridor
  • A gear closet by the door for work boots, jackets and a cooler, over flooring that sheds dust and snowmelt
  • A full kitchen with durable counters, pantry storage and a dining table, not just a stool at the counter
  • Laundry in the unit or close by, sized for heavy work clothes
  • Furniture built for repeated move-ins: metal or solid wood frames and cushions with removable, washable covers

Reno-Sparks residents who settle in for the long run

Once the construction peak passes, the people who remain are long-term staff at those campuses and the workers hired by manufacturers in Reno and Sparks. They look for garden-style and wrap apartments in Sparks and east Reno, rentals priced for trades and technicians, and in time a build-to-rent home or a house in a new subdivision.

Workforce-priced rentals are where interior spending gets tested hardest. The goal is a unit that feels finished and personal on a modest budget: a well-planned kitchen, good lighting, closets deep enough for outdoor gear, and finishes that survive turnover without looking institutional. In build-to-rent and new-home communities, the amenity center and the model home do most of the selling, and outdoor-minded residents notice whether a mudroom bench or garage wall has a place for skis and bikes.

Laura Velasco, our Owner and Principal Designer, began her career in model home merchandising before specializing in multi family and senior living design. Our work also covers senior living and active adult communities, for owners adding those communities to a growing metro.

Reno workforce housing palettes built for Reno-Sparks grit and glare

High desert conditions set the rules. Dry air, intense sun, snowy winters and big swings between day and night temperatures are hard on materials, and wind carries dust into every entry and window track. For Reno workforce housing, every surface should clean fast and repair easily.

Repairability matters as much as durability. A scratched plank that can be swapped out beats a sheet product that has to come up wall to wall, and a chair with a replaceable seat cover beats a chair that has to be discarded. Those choices are easy to make during specification and hard to retrofit later.

  • Matte, mid-tone surfaces that hide dust between cleanings, instead of high-gloss or very dark finishes
  • Fade-resistant fabrics and solar shades on sun-facing windows
  • Quartz or solid-surface counters and sealed flooring that wipe clean of grit
  • Entry zones with hard flooring, hooks and a bench to handle mud and snow
  • A palette of sage, sandstone, basalt gray and Sierra pine, with warm woods and stone to soften the industrial surroundings

From purchase order to placed furniture on a Reno-Sparks project

A Reno-Sparks project would run from our Irvine office like the rest of our out-of-state work, and the majority of our projects are outside Southern California. Our completed work includes projects in western states such as Washington, Oregon, Arizona and Colorado.

Orders from every vendor would come to our own receiving warehouse in Southern California. Our team opens, counts and examines each delivery there, then holds the goods until the site can take them, so a broken lamp or short-shipped chair is replaced in California instead of discovered in Sparks. Coordinated deliveries then carry everything to the building, where installation partners handle the heavy lifting while our designer stages each room to the plan.

For crew housing that opens in phases, the warehouse matters even more. Units can be furnished floor by floor as construction releases them, without the owner renting trailers or stacking pallets in a vacant unit. When the property later moves to conventional leases, the same supply chain handles the refresh.

Questions

Why does growth at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center matter for housing in Reno and Sparks?

Data center projects in Storey County bring large construction crews during the peak and much smaller permanent staffs afterward. The crews need furnished, short-term housing, while long-term staff and manufacturing hires in Reno and Sparks look for apartments, rental homes and houses. Owners who plan interiors for both phases get longer use out of the same building.

Will Level Up Interiors take on Reno workforce housing projects?

Yes. Reno-Sparks is a market we are ready to serve with our national team based in Irvine, California. Our Southern California receiving warehouse and installation partners across the country support every project we run outside Southern California, which is the majority of our work.

Can furnished crew units become standard rentals later?

Yes, if the plan accounts for it from the start. We choose base finishes that suit any resident and build furniture packages that can be pulled back or reassigned. That lets a unit move from rotation housing to a conventional lease without a renovation.

How do furniture and decor reach Northern Nevada from California?

Everything goes to our receiving warehouse in Southern California before it goes anywhere else. We inspect it there and hold it until the site is ready, then send coordinated deliveries to the building, where our installation partners and a Level Up designer complete each room.

Is a smaller Reno-Sparks scope worth bringing to you?

Yes. A furniture refresh for an extended-stay property, a single amenity room or finish selections for a renovation are all welcome. Smaller scopes get the same receiving warehouse and the same design attention as a full building.
