Commercial Interior Design in Richmond

Commercial interior design in Richmond, VA is the planning and furnishing of the apartment communities, rental homes, extended-stay hotels and senior neighborhoods that data center growth is drawing into the suburban counties around the city. Virginia is among the states where Level Up Interiors has completed work, and a Richmond project runs on the same Irvine design team, Southern California receiving warehouse and national installation partners behind all of our work outside California.

Richmond also has a strong sense of its own style, and the interiors should respect it.

Richmond's Data Center Build and the Suburban Rental Wave

In August 2025, Google announced a new data center in Chesterfield County as part of a $9 billion Virginia investment. It joins a market that was already accelerating: Avison Young reported that Richmond-area data center inventory increased more than sevenfold in the first half of 2025.

Data centers are not the only draw. In September 2025, Eli Lilly and Company announced plans for a $5 billion manufacturing facility in Goochland County that is expected to bring more than 650 new high-paying jobs to Virginia and 1,800 construction jobs to the region, so trade crews will be in the market while the plant is built. Travel keeps climbing as well: Richmond International Airport served 4,922,994 total passengers in 2025, its third record year in a row, which supports the hotel and extended-stay product around the airport and downtown.

Building that capacity takes large trade crews, and running it takes a steadier staff of operations employees and technicians. Both groups need somewhere to live in the suburban counties where the work is. Crews lean on extended-stay hotels and furnished apartments during the build. As employment settles, permanent staff rent garden-style and wrap apartments or build-to-rent homes, and new-home neighborhoods and senior and active adult communities follow in Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover.

Garden, Wrap and Build-to-Rent Communities Across Suburban Richmond

Suburban Richmond communities compete on the spaces a renter sees on the tour. The leasing office sets expectations the moment a prospect walks in, so we plan it around comfortable seating, clear sight lines to the amenity areas and a work counter that hides cables and clutter. Clubhouses earn their keep when they serve several uses through the day: coffee and remote work in the morning, package pickup and fitness after work, resident events on weekends.

Build-to-rent communities sell a longer stay. A furnished model and a well-planned clubhouse help a household picture settling in, and unit finishes have to survive turnover without looking institutional. Our founder, Laura Velasco, began her career in model home merchandising, and that eye for how a renter or buyer reads a room shapes how we stage models in new neighborhoods.

Furnished Rooms for Richmond's Construction Crews and Technicians

Extended-stay rooms and furnished workforce apartments take the heaviest use of any product in the market. Residents keep long or rotating shifts, rooms turn over when a trade finishes its scope, and work boots come inside daily. We design these interiors around repair and replacement first.

  • A standardized furniture package, so a damaged chair or nightstand is swapped from attic stock instead of reordered
  • Performance upholstery, solid-surface counters and scrubbable wall finishes
  • Blackout shades and sound-absorbing rugs for residents who sleep during the day
  • Kitchens and closets planned for long stays, with real room for groceries, laundry and gear

Commercial Interior Design in Richmond, VA That Leans Traditional Without Looking Dated

Richmond's buildings run from Georgian and Federal brick to Victorian rowhouses and warehouse conversions along the James River. Many residents work in government, banking and tech and tend to expect warm, traditional-leaning rooms, and the region's Southern hospitality sets a high bar for a lobby or clubhouse. We work that inheritance in with a light hand: brick and iron details, river stone, heart-pine tones in casegoods and flooring, and classic patterns scaled up so they read fresh. In a new suburban building, a few of those cues make the place feel like Richmond rather than anywhere else.

The climate shapes the same choices. Humid summers call for moisture-resistant fabrics, quick-drying rugs near pools and outdoor furniture with drainable cushions. Mild springs and falls make covered patios and porches some of the most used amenity space in a community, so we furnish them as real rooms. Occasional winter ice means slip-resistant entry flooring and walk-off mats deep enough to catch melt before it reaches the corridor.

Inspected in California, Installed in Richmond

Every vendor ships to our receiving warehouse in Southern California, where we unpack and check each piece against the specification before it travels east. Damage and wrong finishes are resolved there, out of sight of the leasing team. We hold completed orders and release them in consolidated loads by building or phase, timed to the dates the owner cares about: model opening, initial move-ins, grand opening.

In Richmond, our installation partners receive and set the furniture while our designers travel in to place and style each room. Wrap and podium buildings bring elevator bookings and limited dock time, so we sequence deliveries floor by floor. The owner receives a finished space, ready for tours and photography.

Questions

Do you provide commercial interior design in Richmond, VA from California?

Yes. Our studio is in Irvine, most of our projects are outside Southern California, and Virginia is among the states where we have completed work. Our warehouse and installation partners carry Richmond projects through to opening.

Which Richmond property types do you take on?

Garden-style and wrap apartments, build-to-rent communities, extended-stay and workforce housing, senior and active adult communities, and model homes for new neighborhoods. We also welcome small scopes, such as a furniture refresh, a single amenity room, finish selections or a rendering.

When should a Richmond owner bring in an interior designer?

Ideally before finish budgets and amenity layouts are locked, so furniture plans, lighting and outlet locations line up with how each room will be used. We can also join later to furnish a building already under construction. Starting early usually means fewer changes in the field.

Will a Richmond clubhouse end up looking like Southern California?

No. We design each property for its market and its renters. In Richmond that means warmer, more traditional cues such as brick, iron, heart-pine tones and classic patterns, balanced with clean lines so the space still feels current.
