Senior Living and Active Adult Interior Design in Memphis
Senior living interior design in Memphis is the planning of independent living, assisted living, memory care and active adult communities so residents can navigate, dine and gather comfortably and families feel confident on the tour. Memphis is a river city with strong local roots, and a growing regional economy means some households are moving to be near relatives who took jobs in the area.
We are a national team based in Irvine, with a Southern California receiving warehouse and installation partners across the country, and we are ready to design senior communities for Memphis owners.
Households moving to Memphis to be near family

Housing demand in the Memphis area is tied to the data center and industrial corridor that spans Shelby County, DeSoto County in Mississippi and Crittenden County in Arkansas. Construction crews arrive first, followed by technicians, plant workers and logistics staff. Some of those workers have parents who relocate to join them, and some move from out of state without knowing the area at all.
A senior community meeting that family sees the interior before anything else. The first walk-through tells an adult child whether a parent will be safe, comfortable and treated as an individual, and tells the parent whether this feels like home or like a facility. Design is the quickest way to answer both.
AAON's plan for 828 jobs and a $238 million HVAC operation in Memphis is a hiring plan, not current headcount. If those hires arrive, some will bring parents with them, and a community that families can tour in a single visit, with the dining room and a care neighborhood on one route, is ready for that decision. The $4 billion Google project is in West Memphis, Arkansas, and came with no job count, so we do not build a senior program on it.
Light, contrast and wayfinding in Memphis senior communities

Older eyes need more light and clearer contrast between floor, wall and door. We plan lighting levels and fixture types for the corridors and common rooms before choosing finishes, because glare and shadow both cause hesitation and falls. Flooring should read as a single plane, without strong patterns or abrupt changes that look like steps.
Wayfinding works best when it uses memory as well as signs. In a memory care neighborhood, a memorable feature at each turn, such as a distinct color, a piece of art or a shadow box outside each room, helps residents find their way without staff. For independent living and active adult buildings, clear sight lines from the lobby to the dining room and the activity spaces do much of the same job.
Dining and activity rooms for Memphis independent and active adult residents

Dining is the most visited room in a senior community, and the Memphis setting offers a lot to work with. Warm wood, brick and mid-century Southern references suit a dining room that should feel like a restaurant a resident would choose, and a barbecue and music culture can inform the activity spaces and the bar or bistro.
- Dining rooms with more than one seating type, so residents can choose a quiet table or a lively one.
- Activity rooms with flexible furniture and good acoustics, because crowded rooms push residents away.
- Outdoor seating shaded and protected from humid summer weather.
- Fitness and wellness rooms that active adult residents will actually use.
Assisted living and memory care interiors in Memphis, and the family tour
Read more
Assisted living and memory care need calm, familiar residential details with quiet safety built in. That means furniture that is stable and comfortable to rise from, finishes that are easy to clean, and spaces that stay legible at dusk. A family tour should pass through the lobby, a dining room and a care neighborhood so that care and design are seen together.
Tennessee is still a state where we have no completed project. We bring a senior living background from other states, a warehouse where furniture is received and inspected, and installers across the country who place it with our designers on site.
Questions
What does senior living interior design in Memphis include?
It covers lobbies, dining rooms, activity and wellness spaces, resident corridors and care neighborhoods across independent living, assisted living, memory care and active adult communities. Each care level has its own priorities for light, safety and familiarity.
How is active adult community design different from independent living?
Active adult communities are aimed at residents who do not need services and want a social, resort-style setting. The clubhouse, fitness and event spaces carry more of the program than they do in independent living, where dining is central.
How does the interior help during a family tour?
Families notice light, cleanliness, sound and whether residents look at ease. We plan the tour path so those qualities show in the first few rooms.
Have you completed senior living work in Tennessee?
No, a Memphis community would mark our first senior living work in Tennessee. Our senior living work is in other states, and we are ready to bring the same process to Memphis owners and operators.
