Commercial Interior Design in Phoenix, Tempe and Tucson

Commercial interior design in Phoenix, Tempe and Tucson is the planning, furnishing and installation of interiors for Arizona properties, and in our portfolio that means student housing.

We serve Arizona from our base in Irvine, California. Our completed Arizona work is four student living projects: Union Tempe and Gateway in Tempe, and Urbane and Union on 6th in Tucson.

Student Housing in Tempe and Tucson

Union Tempe, Gateway, Urbane and Union on 6th are student living properties, and students use a building differently from conventional renters. Shared rooms are busy late at night, study and social life overlap, and residents turn over from one school year to the next. The pre-leasing tour is often a student and a parent deciding together, so the spaces have to read as both fun and well run.

We start with the competing student properties a family will also tour, then set a direction for how each amenity should behave. A study lounge needs focus, outlets and furniture that supports laptops. A social lounge can be looser, but it still needs circulation and clear sightlines. Fitness, gaming and outdoor-adjacent rooms each call for a different furniture and finish response.

A Growing Valley Behind the Student Market

Student housing is one piece of a metro that is still adding people and employers. The Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler metro area gained 59,065 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, the fourth-largest numeric increase of any U.S. metro. Semiconductor investment is a large part of the draw: TSMC now states a total Arizona investment of $265 billion across 12 facilities, and Amkor Technology broke ground in Peoria in October 2025 on an advanced packaging campus planned for as many as 3,000 jobs once both phases are complete.

That growth reaches the properties we know best. Engineers, technicians and construction crews look for apartments in the same East Valley neighborhoods that students and young professionals do, which raises the bar for amenity spaces that have to win a tour. Visitors add to the picture: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport handled 5,128,429 passengers in March 2026, the busiest month in its history.

Desert Light and Heat

Arizona sun changes how an interior reads. Strong daylight washes out pale colors, sharpens glare on glossy surfaces and can make a room feel hot even when the air conditioning is keeping up. We test palettes and materials against that light, favor low-sheen finishes where the sun lands, and treat window coverings as part of the furniture plan.

Heat shapes the amenities too. Pool decks and outdoor study areas are popular in the mild months and punishing in the hot ones, so outdoor furniture and the finishes at the doors between inside and out need to tolerate heat, UV and tracked-in grit. The trade-offs are real: a light palette stays cooler but shows wear sooner, and a saturated feature wall photographs well but may fade.

Furniture Built for Turnover

Student housing furniture takes more abuse than almost any other residential setting. Chairs are dragged between rooms, tables serve as desks and dining tables in the same evening, and unit packages are lived in hard by a new set of residents each year. We choose frames, fabrics and finishes that can be cleaned, repaired or swapped without reordering a whole room, and we plan layouts that staff can reset quickly after an event.

The furniture also has to be in place before move-in, which in a student building is a date that does not move. We buy and track every order against that deadline so problems surface while there is still time to fix them.

Designing From California for an Arizona Site

Because our office is in Irvine, Arizona work depends on clear documentation and steady follow-through. Decisions are drawn and written down so the contractor is not waiting on a phone call to keep building. When construction raises a question, we answer it in writing and check submittals against the design.

For installation, our designers are on site while the furniture is unloaded, put together and set in place, so the rooms come out the way the drawings showed them. Cartons and wrap are hauled off before the first resident arrives.

  • A look at competing student properties before any palette is set
  • Palettes and finishes tested against strong desert daylight
  • Furniture purchasing tracked against a fixed move-in date

Questions

What does commercial interior design in Phoenix and Tempe cover?

For our Arizona projects it has meant student housing: lounges, study rooms, fitness, outdoor amenity areas and unit furniture. On an Arizona project we can carry the work from a first look at competing properties to installed furniture, or join partway through when the design is already set.

Do you design student housing interiors in Tempe?

Yes. Union Tempe and Gateway in Tempe are completed student living projects in our portfolio. Student housing interior design in Tempe has to account for study areas, social spaces, the pre-leasing tour, durable furniture and amenities residents use every day.

Have you completed projects in Phoenix itself?

Our completed Arizona work is in Tempe, part of the Phoenix metro, and in Tucson: Union Tempe, Gateway, Urbane and Union on 6th. Beyond Arizona, our completed work reaches California, Texas, Colorado, Florida and New York, part of a list of thirteen states.

How do Arizona conditions affect interior design decisions?

Mostly through light and heat. Strong daylight affects how colors and sheens read, and outdoor amenities need furniture and threshold finishes that tolerate sun and grit. We weigh those during material selection so the palette still looks right at the height of summer.

Can you manage FF&E for an Arizona student housing project?

Yes. We select, buy and track the furniture, art and accessories for shared spaces and units, then install them with our designers on site before residents move in.
