Senior Living and Active Adult Interior Design in Salt Lake City

Senior living interior design in Salt Lake City covers independent living, assisted living, memory care and 55+ active adult communities, and the lighting, wayfinding, dining and activity spaces that make them work for residents and for the families who tour them. Many of those families are in the decision because a relative took a job in the region.

Level Up Interiors is based in Irvine. Our founder began in model home merchandising and then specialized in multi family and senior living design as a project manager, and Salt Lake City is a market we are ready to serve.

Why senior living interior design matters in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City housing demand is driven by corporate and life-science hiring and by data center construction and operations, and that supports senior and active adult housing along with apartments and new-home communities. Nonfarm payroll employment in the Salt Lake City-Murray metro area rose by 20,900 jobs, or 2.5%, over the year ending August 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Growth like that brings adult children to the valley, and some bring a parent with them. The first tour is often a family visit with a long list of questions, which means the building is judged on how it feels in an hour, as well as on how well it works over years.

Life-science expansion matters here specifically. In December 2025, Utah's Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity awarded Stryker a post-performance tax reduction for a Salt Lake County expansion that projects 862 new jobs and $615.6 million invested in Utah over 20 years. In July 2025, the same office gave Redo a post-performance tax reduction for a Draper expansion that projects 682 new jobs. Skilled professionals who relocate for roles like these often bring parents, and a family choosing a community for a parent decides on how the lobby and first hallway feel.

Light, contrast and wayfinding in Salt Lake City senior communities

The valley has strong, clear light, and also winter inversion weeks of gray. Both matter. Bright days produce glare on polished floors and through unprotected glass, which is a fall risk for older eyes. Gray weeks call for layered, warm, even lighting so the corridors do not feel institutional.

Wayfinding should rely on more than signs. Distinct color and material cues by neighborhood, a memorable artwork or furniture group at each decision point, and clear contrast between floor, wall and handrail help residents find their way, especially in memory care, where a calm, uncluttered corridor with an obvious destination does more than any sign. We pick contrast deliberately, with floors that do not read as steps or holes and doors that are easy to identify.

Dining rooms and activity spaces for Salt Lake City independent and active adult living

This is an outdoors-first region, and active adult residents expect a clubhouse that reflects it. Think a fitness room with real equipment, a flexible multipurpose room for classes, a social kitchen, a gear and bike area and an outdoor patio that can be used across seasons.

Dining is the anchor of independent and assisted living. A single room serving every meal tends to be tiring, so we favor a main dining room plus a bistro, a private dining room for family dinners and booth or banquette seating that gives people a choice. Warm timber, stone textures and the region's palette of red rock, sagebrush and alpine blue make the rooms feel like a place and not a facility.

What families see on a Salt Lake City senior living tour

Families read the lobby and the first hallway quickly. They notice smell, sound, light and whether staff and residents are visible. The entry should feel more like a good hotel than a clinic, with a concierge or reception desk, comfortable seating and a path to a bright common room.

We plan the tour route backward from what the family needs to see: a model apartment furnished with real scale and storage, dining, an activity room in use, and a care-level wing that feels calm. For the move-in, the furniture package is received, inspected and stored in our Southern California warehouse, then delivered and placed with designers on site, with installation partners across the country.

Questions

What does senior living interior design in Salt Lake City include?

It includes public areas, dining, activity rooms, corridors, model apartments and care-level interiors across independent living, assisted living, memory care and 55+ active adult communities.

Has Level Up Interiors completed a project in Utah?

Not yet. We have completed projects in thirteen states and are ready to serve Salt Lake City from Irvine using our usual process, warehouse and installation network.

How do you design differently for memory care?

We prioritize calm, uncluttered corridors, strong contrast between surfaces, clear destinations and residential furniture that is safe and cleanable. Details such as lighting and glare control matter as much as the finishes.

Do you work on active adult clubhouses and models?

Yes. Active adult communities need a clubhouse, social spaces and furnished models that speak to buyers and renters who are still active, and we design those along with the resident-facing interiors.
